Grand Seiko: a tale of Japanese excellence

Grand Seiko was born in 1960 with the aim of creating the very best watch that the company could make.

Each creation is handmade in Japan by skilled artisans who ensure the high precision, legibility, durability, and beauty for which Grand Seiko has become renowned.

Deeply rooted in Japanese heritage, the brand's philosophy, The Nature of Time, celebrates the Japanese spirituality of time, which is inspired by nature and brought to life by craftspeople known as Takumi.

Grand Seiko's watches are powered by exquisite mechanical and quartz movements as well as the revolutionary and unique movement technology known as Spring Drive. Grand Seiko is a vertically integrated manufacturer, and all its calibers are designed, developed, and manufactured in-house by its respective teams.

The brand's watches include the Elegance, Heritage, Sport, and Evolution 9 collections in addition to the Masterpiece collection dedicated to the Japanese maison's most exclusive timepieces.
Design

The Grand Seiko Style, defined in 1967, is a design language focused on the idea of “sparkle with quality” and accurately reflects the Brand's essential characteristics: precision, beauty, legibility and ease of use.

It is based on three basic design principles, according to which each watch should have two-dimensional curves and flat, distortion-free surfaces, presenting a mirror polish, thanks to the Zaratsu technique, which increases the contrast between light and shadow.

In Japan, shadow is valued just as much as light, which is why the Grand Seiko Style focuses on straight lines and flat surfaces that together achieve a structural design with endless expressions of light and shadow, conveying a typically Japanese aesthetic taste.

Based on these 3 principles, nine design elements emerge that guide the creation of every detail of Grand Seiko timepieces.
Grand Seiko manufactures and movements

In accordance with the most stringent standards of Grand Seiko's manufacturing philosophy, every single detail from development, design and manufacture, to assembly and adjustment is masterfully and meticulously carried out in-house, even inspection and shipment are scrupulously followed in the same vein and with the same attention.

The Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi is located in the prefecture of majestic Mt. Iwate, while the Shinshu Watch Studio is surrounded by the beautiful mountains and lake of the same name.

In these idyllic places for the soul, three movements are created with the utmost craftsmanship:
In addition to these, there is also The Micro Artist Studio located in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture in the midst of the northern Japanese Alps, which include the Hotaka and Jonen mountain ranges.

It is the high-end studio in which the Masterpiece Collection, a series of watches, is made, combining the best of watchmaking technology with the excellence of the Japanese house's craftsmanship.

Each movement tells a distinct story, revealing THE TRUE NATURE OF TIME.
The Takumi

The spirit of the Takumi family is embodied in every Grand Seiko model, and is evidenced by the strong passion and soul they put into every detail, meticulously handcrafted in a constant search for the perfect watch.
